Competition update from the Match Committee

In addition to our routine weekly events, a number of annual competitions are running in the background for 7-Day and 6-Day members. They award points for top place getters in daily comps and record cumulative totals for members throughout the year.

They include the Order of Merit (points awarded Wednesday and Saturday for men; Monday, Thursday and Sunday for women, over the membership year) and the men’s T20 competition (Saturday events from August to May with final series on the 11th and 18th of May). In addition, we run the Eclectic competition (over the course of the year). This year has a little different time period with the course re-routing.

So, it seems an update is timely at this point!

Order of Merit: (See the Member’s Portal for standings)

Leading currently in the men’s OoM is Stefan Albinski (625 pts) from Greg Stanford (531) in second. In hot pursuit are Matt Oliver (529), Jack Reilly (524) Michael Robotham (521) and Tyler Rogers (519).
In the women’s OoM we have Grace Kim (157 pts), Lisa Spray (152) and Peta Gilliland (151). The next closest is Anne Vickers (122).

With 6 weeks to go anyone in these groups can win from here.

T20 men’s competition (for current standings go to Order of Merit on Member’s Portal)

This event begins in August, the first month of the membership year and is run like the PGA FedEx Cup with weekly points going to top 60 in the Saturday competition. On May 11th the top 60 players’ points tally have an elimination final to lead to 32 players qualifying for the Final. The Final is a Stableford event with bonus Stableford points at the start, awarded based on ranking after the Elimination Final. The Grand Final attracts significant cash prizes of $1000.

Current leaders are Jack Reilly, Bruce Edwards, Rod Dick, James Lean and Thomas Woo. Large movements in positions can occur as daily winners attract up to 600 points a win, so everyone is in it up to the final series.

Eclectic competition

There are two eclectic events to play for.

The Gross event is essentially a Stroke event and favours low handicappers.

Currently leaders in the men’s Gross Eclectic are Ollie Hugill (50) and Jack McLeod (50), Angus Radford (51), with Mark McInnes, Andy Hugill, Bruce Edwards, Shannon Cameron and Graham Nes tied on 52!
In the women’s Gross event, we have Peta Gilliland (69), Lisa Spray (73), Raina Laughton (73), Ros Hooper (76).

The Net event has a handicap adjustment factor of 75% for men and 50% for women to make this event .more relevant to all handicap players.

Current leaders in the men are Ian Hewett on 48.55, Alex Earl on 48.92, then Lewis Rupell on 49.15. Ollie Hugill is 4th with Nett of 49.25 and Gross of 50! His handicap is around scratch to 1.
For the women we have Peta Gilliland (62.2), Lisa Spray (65.5), Raina Laughton (67.6) and Helen Biven (67.7).

Thus, you can see there is plenty to play for in the coming weeks in addition to the competition of the day.
