T20 Challenge

The Grand Final of the T20 was held after a number of delays, last Saturday.

Excited and bristling with confidence they strutted on the putter and the chipper, held their heads high with chests out and eyed off the opposition in anticipation of sweet victory and cash in the bank.

The hopefuls teed-off from 11am in very cool and windy conditions. The leader was Nick Abbenbroek hotly pursued by Holst, Gargate and dogged Tuinman. Bonus points had been allocated after the Elimination final and those players had plenty on the back of the field.

Lethal Leigh Williamson failed to fire as did those in the first few groups off. The pressure of making up the deficit on the day was too much to handle for most at the back of the field. Greg Kirkham the exception with a solid 35 points to be in front in the clubhouse early.

Hemmo played well with 33 points, but not enough bonus points to make a statement.

After the first nine we saw a massive move from the middle of the pack. Big bomber, bruising Bruce Edwards off 2, carded 21 points. The stage was set for a tight finish for those teeing off later in the pointy end of the field. Not to disappoint, Bruce maintained his form with 20 on the back nine, shooting 3 under and carding 41 points on the day with 2 bonus points, setting a clubhouse leader target of 43.

Subsequent groups finished as the sunset faded over the hills behind the Bahai temple, along with that event so went the aspirations of many. They entered their scores and added their bonus points and despite Holst, Gargate with 34’s and Tuinman with 33, Nick Abbenbroek with 29, remarkably we saw the 43 points of last year’s winner Bruce Edwards, decisively take out the event with Holst second on 41 and Gargate third.

A great result and well-deserved winner Bruce received $600 cash, Matt $200 for second and Nick Abbenbroek $200 for being leader at the end of the years points accumulation prior to the finals.

On behalf of the members and the players of the day, I would like to thank Simon King, Kate Wall, and their team for supporting this event throughout an unusual year. I would also like to thank for the support received from the Board for this event. I believe next year sponsorship may well be forthcoming for this event. Details to follow!

Cheers
